Locate the Reset Button
Some air conditioners have a reset button while others don’t. If your unit has one, you should easily be able to locate it by sight as they are usually small and red. You can refer to the user manual to find it.
If you’ve found the reset button, you should unplug your unit for 15 seconds, and then plug it back in. Afterward, you can simply press the reset button to reset your air conditioner.
Turn It Off
If you have a unit that doesn’t have a reset button, you will have to take different steps. Before you do anything, you should turn off the thermostat. After that, you can refer to the manufacturer’s manual to locate the shutoff button on your air conditioning unit to turn that off as well. Ensuring that the thermostat is shut off first is essential for your safety.
Go to the Circuit Breaker
You should go to your home’s circuit breaker that is linked with your air conditioner. Usually, the circuit breaker is in the basement.
Once you have accessed the circuit breaker, wait for one minute before doing anything. After the minute has passed, you should restore power to your air conditioning unit. Before doing this, you should let everyone in your home know that you’re resetting the circuit breaker to reset the air conditioner.
Turn It Back On
You can wait for another minute. Your air conditioning unit will then reset by itself. You will then be free to return to your thermostat to turn it back on. Check the temperature on it and set it to the level you want to restore cool air to your home. Confirm whether the air conditioner is now cooling to the desired temperature and is working properly.
